Body Zorbing At School
I have to start by saying that I’m very fond of my PE teacher. I’ve never seen someone so dedicated to getting us children to move our bodies and to dedicate more time to physical activity. I look at myself and all my friends and realize that we are on the chubby side and that what we are missing in our lives is sport.
But my PE teacher change that last week. He had a great idea of introducing body zorbing to our school. Before him, I had no idea what body zorbing refers to. But after last week, I found out that body zorbing is one of the most fun outdoor activities anybody can practice these days. It originates from regular zorbing, which entails getting inside the giant plastic inflatable ball and rolling on hills at high speeds. But body zorbing is different, in a way that only your upper body gets stuck inside a huge inflatable ball call the body zorb. This inflatable ball has two layers that are interlinked and stuck to each other by a network of many plastic threads. These threats hold the two balls together and form an air cushion that can be inflated using an electric pump. Once this inflatable ball is fully pumped up, you get inside the inner tube which has some harnesses for you to strap yourself in. It also comes equipped with two handles so that you can hold onto the inner side of the ball using the handles. This way you turn into a walking inflatable ball, since your legs are outside of it and can carry you around. You use the body zorb to bump into objects or to roll around, or to bump into other people wearing body zorbs as well. Our teacher introduced us to the giant inflatable balls and we had a lot of fun trying different scenarios with them. It’s really made physical education class way more interesting and more demanding and fun at the same time. One of the scenarios we first tried was to organize ourselves into two teams and play football while wedding these body zorbing balls. This activity is called bodyzorbing football, and it’s quite widespread around Europe where football is very popular. We call it soccer in the US. But anyway you want to call it body zorbing soccer or football was hilarious. We were all running around while inside this inflatable transparent balls chasing a football on the field and randomly bumping into each other. Once we would bump into each other would fall tumble and roll around helplessly and hilariously. We were all having a blast. I’m now definitely looking for the next physical education class I have next week. Really I tip my hat off to my physical education teacher for having such a great idea of introducing body zorbing to our school. I have some other ideas that I want to present my teacher about body zorbing. For now we only tried body zorbing football but I really would like to organize our class into teams of two people facing each other and playing body zorbing sumo. We can use chalk to draw a big circle on the ground and then while letting body zorbing suits we can use these giant inflatable balls to rush at each other and wrestled inside the big circle. The one that wins is the one that pushes the adversary out of the circle or the one that makes him roll and tumble and fall to the ground. I hope the teacher would like to test out this idea that I had. I also looked on the Internet and found out there are many other body zorbing related activities that we can practice at school during the sports class. But I would take my time and present them to the teacher one step at a time because I don’t want to overburden him with information. Hopefully we’ll get to practice something else besides soccer but even if we stick only to that it’s going to be extremely fun. I really love body zorbing and I think it was a great idea to have it in our school for our physical education classes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Mr. Nelson, you are a great teacher! |
